Here's my music collection. I own the vast majority of it on CD
(yes, I still buy CDs), but a small portion of it was purchased in
digital form.
My musical tastes have evolved and expanded quite a bit over the
years. I used to listen to a lot of Electropop like Depeche
Mode and Erasure, and New Age artists
like Enya. Then I moved on to Progressive Rock artists
like Saga, Rush, Pink Floyd,
and Genesis. Next, I tried out Industrial and Goth Rock,
notably The Sisters of Mercy, The Mission, Clan
of Xymox, Skinny Puppy, and Front Line
Assembly. Then I shifted gears to more downtempo genres like
Ambient, Trance, and IDM, with artists
like Autechre, Orbital, Biosphere,
Pete Namlook, and Robert Rich. Still later, I made
my way to Chillout/Psychill, Psybient and Psytrance, with artists
like Schiller, Solar Fields, Ulrich Schnauss,
and Zero Cult. Still later I explored Nugaze with the likes
of Lights Out Asia, Hammock, and Port-Royal.
My musical tastes are firmly not mainstream. I find
popular music to be rather boring if not downright irritating.
Fortunately there is a lot of music out there that I do
enjoy—it just takes a bit of effort to find it. I typically
discover new artists by listening
to Pandora and
last.fm, or by just doing research on the
web to find artists that are related to those that I like.
